Tunis, Tunisia – GHADI proudly participated in the regional training workshop on “Tools and Methodologies for Species Conservation,” organized by the IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation through the Mubadarat Programme, with the support of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). Representing GHADI at the workshop was Ms. Marianne Fahd, who took part in the three-day capacity-building programme alongside experts and practitioners from across the Mediterranean and North Africa.

The workshop brought together conservation professionals, researchers, government representatives, and civil society organizations to strengthen regional capacities in biodiversity conservation and species management. Through a comprehensive programme of technical sessions, participants explored internationally recognized IUCN knowledge products and conservation tools, including the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, the IUCN Red List of Ecosystems, Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs), conservation planning methodologies, and project design and development for species conservation initiatives.

As part of the programme, participants conducted field visits to ecologically significant wetland ecosystems in Tunisia, where they examined biodiversity values, discussed conservation challenges, and exchanged practical experiences on ecosystem management and restoration. These field activities provided valuable insights into the application of science-based conservation approaches and highlighted the importance of integrated ecosystem management.

The workshop served as a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, professional networking, and regional collaboration, reinforcing the critical role of evidence-based conservation, cross-border partnerships, and collective action in addressing biodiversity loss and safeguarding threatened species and ecosystems throughout the Mediterranean region.

Commenting on the participation, GHADI reaffirmed its commitment to advancing nature conservation through science, innovation, and regional cooperation. The organization emphasized that the knowledge and methodologies acquired during the training will contribute to strengthening its biodiversity conservation programmes, supporting sustainable ecosystem management, and fostering collaboration with regional and international partners.
