Fadi Ghanem, Chairman of the Media Group and President of the Ghadi Association, visited Professor Hyam Ishak to congratulate her on her appointment as President of the Center for Educational Research and Development (CERD) in a permanent capacity. He wished her success in her responsibilities and in advancing Lebanon’s ongoing curriculum reform.
The meeting was attended by Rania Ghosoub, Head of the Bureau of Preparation and Training; Dr. Ghita Hanna, Head of the Research Bureau; advisers Dr. Elie Mikhael and Dr. Akram Sabeq; and Yvonne Feghali, Coordinator of the International Assessments Unit, alongside curriculum specialists and academics from the Lebanese University.
Ghanem praised Ishak’s academic and educational expertise and her commitment to improving education and strengthening institutional performance. He described her permanent appointment as an important step towards ensuring continuity at CERD and reinforcing its role as a national authority in curriculum development, teacher preparation and educational research. He also expressed confidence in her ability to work with the Center’s team and education specialists to meet the challenges of the next phase.
“Renewing Lebanon’s curricula is a national responsibility that goes beyond updating textbooks and course content,” Ghanem said. “It is about empowering learners to think critically, create and participate meaningfully in their communities. We aspire to curricula that equip students with knowledge, skills and values, connect education to everyday life, and strengthen citizenship, belonging and respect for diversity.”
He added: “We are confident in Professor Hyam Ishak’s ability to lead this undertaking, drawing on her academic and educational experience. Her role carries a responsibility to bring together expertise and encourage collaboration among researchers, teachers and specialists. The success of this reform will benefit Lebanese schools and generations of learners who deserve an education that broadens their opportunities.”
Ghanem also stressed the importance of embedding environmental education and a culture of sustainability in the new curricula.
“Educating generations who understand the value of Lebanon’s natural resources and take responsibility for protecting them begins at school,” he said. “We hope to see these principles translated into practical knowledge and everyday habits that deepen students’ connection to their land and communities, enabling them to contribute to environmental protection and safeguard the rights of future generations.”
Ghanem affirmed the readiness of the Ghadi Association and the Media Group to support these educational efforts and raise public awareness of the importance of education reform. He concluded by wishing Ishak and the CERD team success in carrying out this national undertaking.
