In a statement issued on this occasion, Ghanem described Attenborough as “far more than a broadcaster or documentary filmmaker. He became the voice of the Earth itself and one of humanity’s greatest defenders of nature.”
Ghanem noted that the remarkable global tributes witnessed across international media and social platforms reflect the extraordinary impact Attenborough has had on generations worldwide through more than seven decades of environmental storytelling, scientific communication, and advocacy for the planet.
“Through his iconic voice and unmatched passion, David Attenborough transformed the way humanity sees nature,” the statement said. “He taught the world that forests are not merely collections of trees, oceans are not merely bodies of water, and wildlife is not simply part of science, but rather the living soul and heartbeat of our planet.”
The statement highlighted Attenborough’s exceptional contribution through landmark productions with and internationally acclaimed documentaries that introduced millions of viewers to the beauty of the natural world while raising awareness about climate change, habitat destruction, biodiversity loss, and the urgent need for global environmental action.
“In a world overwhelmed by conflict, noise, and environmental destruction, his voice remained a voice of truth, wisdom, and hope,” Ghanem added. “At a time when nature has too often been exploited and neglected, Sir David stood among the greatest defenders of life, biodiversity, and the future of our planet.”
Ghanem also emphasized that Attenborough’s legacy goes far beyond television and documentaries, describing him as a global symbol of environmental awareness whose work inspired governments, scientists, youth movements, educators, and conservation organizations around the world.
“His message reminded humanity that protecting nature is not a luxury or an option,” the statement continued. “It is a moral responsibility, a shared mission, and a necessity for the future of life on Earth.”
The statement concluded with a heartfelt tribute:
“Happy 100th Birthday, Sir David Attenborough. Your legacy will continue to inspire generations to protect the beauty, diversity, and spirit of our planet. The Earth is more beautiful because you taught humanity how to truly see it.”
