BEIRUT — Fadi Ghanem, President of the Ghadi Association and Past District Governor of Lions Clubs International District 351 — Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Palestine — congratulated Assad Serhal, Director General of the Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL), and Fadi Naser, Director General of Jordan’s Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN), on their election as the Middle East Partnership’s representatives to the BirdLife International Global Council for the next four years.

Their election reflects the confidence placed in their leadership, extensive conservation experience and long-standing commitment to protecting biodiversity, natural habitats and migratory birds across the Middle East. It also strengthens the region’s presence in BirdLife International’s global decision-making and provides an important opportunity to ensure that its environmental priorities and challenges are effectively represented at the international level.

Serhal and Naser have played prominent roles in advancing community-based conservation and fostering regional cooperation to protect key ecosystems and bird migration routes. Their election comes at a critical time, as climate change, habitat degradation and the unsustainable use of natural resources place increasing pressure on biodiversity throughout the region.

Ghanem said:

“I warmly congratulate my dear friends Assad Serhal and Fadi Naser on this well-deserved election. It is a source of pride for Lebanon, Jordan and the entire Middle East, and a recognition of their distinguished efforts and unwavering dedication to nature conservation.”

“Their presence on the BirdLife International Global Council will give our region a stronger voice in shaping international conservation policies, protecting migratory bird flyways and promoting solutions that connect science, local communities and sustainable development. I am confident that they will represent the Middle East with professionalism, vision and determination.”

Ghanem also highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation among BirdLife partners, governments, conservation organisations, researchers and local communities to protect the Middle East’s globally significant ecosystems and migratory routes.

“The challenges facing nature transcend borders, and addressing them requires a shared regional vision and coordinated international action. Investing in biodiversity protection is an investment in human well-being, climate resilience and the future of coming generations,” he added.

Ghadi Association and HimaEcoMedia extend their warmest congratulations to Assad Serhal and Fadi Naser and wish them every success throughout their four-year mandate, confident that their leadership will contribute to advancing BirdLife International’s mission and achieving lasting conservation outcomes in the Middle East and beyond.
